Catholic Charities Services

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Gary, has been meeting the human needs of the people of Northwest Indiana for the last 75 years. Services to help those in need include:


Counseling - provides family, couples and individual therapy to resolve personal conflicts and enhance quality of life.


Family life education – educational groups and workshops to develop life management skills.


Material assistance – emergency financial assistance and advocacy for qualifying families.


Crisis pregnancy – counseling and financial assistance for pregnant women and their families.


Adoption and home studies – infant adoption services and assistance to families adopting privately.


Housing counseling – Services to assist individuals and families with making decisions regarding their housing needs. This program is geared toward low and moderate-income households.


Gateway Housing – permanent housing for chronically homeless persons with serious mental illnesses.


Women's Care Center – provides pregnancy testing and verification, ultrasound, counseling, parenting classes, baby clothing and supplies, prenatal vitamins, 24-hour hotline, Crib Club 'Store.'


Marriage preparation – for engaged couples planning to marry in the Catholic Church.


Rachel's Vineyard – assists individuals, couples and families heal from the effects of abortion.


Food pantry (East Chicago)


Eating Healthy East Chicago – provides free, informal educational programs to increase the ability of individuals and families with limited resources to utilize their food dollars and food stamps appropriately and provide healthy and safely made meals.


Senior Companion Program – seniors assist frail, often homebound, elderly maintain their independence.


Foster Grandparent Program – seniors help children with special needs through mentoring, literacy assistance and support in various community settings.


Vision screening – preschool.
